Why my SASSA 370 is Still Pending

Many South Africans rely on the SASSA R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to support their daily needs. However, it can be stressful when an application shows a “pending” status without clear explanation. Understanding why your SASSA R370 grant is still pending is crucial to knowing what steps to take next. In this article, we explain the reasons behind the pending status, how the verification process works, and what you can do to help move your application forward.

Why is my SASSA 370 grant still pending?

When you check your application status and realize that it is pending, you need not be alarmed. First, it is important to understand what happens behind the scenes once an application is sent.

Once your application is received by SASSA, it is thoroughly checked by running your ID against different databases such as the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), and the South African Revenue Services (SARS). It is a requirement by SASSA for R370 grant applicants not to be receiving funds from any of these services. During this time, you are likely to receive a Pending status on your grant application.

Once your application passes these checks, you will receive a message to submit your bank details. Once you enter your bank details, you will be able to receive payment and your application will move to Approved.

How to solve SASSA Status pending

Even with your status reading Pending, you can still take action. To do so, it is best to visit the nearest SASSA office and contact a representative. You can also call them or contact them via WhatsApp

It is important to note that according to a recent update, your application status can also go pending if there is lack of funds. In such a case, there is not much that you can do except wait. Ensure that you keep checking your Sassa status to keep yourself updated.

How to check your SASSA R370 status

There are different and convenient ways to check your SASSA R370 status.

Firstly, you can do so online by visiting the official SASSA website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status. Then, enter your ID and phone number used during application and click on Submit for your grant status and payment date to appear.

You can also use WhatsApp to check your status. For this, use SASSA’s official WhatsApp number at 0820 468 553. Provide the necessary instructions in the chat (i.e status check). The system will assist you in navigating the status check procedure.

If you are not in a position to access the online services, you can also check your status using a USSD code. For this, simply dial 12069277# on your phone and follow the prompts. You will receive your 370 status in response.

FAQs

How long does SASSA Pending status take?

The duration of a pending status can vary from one reason to another – there is no fixed timeframe. The processing time for SASSA applications varies depending on various factors such as the completeness of the application, complexity of the case, and the volume of applications being processed at the time. Therefore, your pending status can remain as it is for a few weeks to several months before SASSA processes applications and makes a decision.

What do I do if my payment is delayed?

If your application is approved but the payment is delayed, you can check your bank and post office first. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the department at 0800 60 18 11. Also, ensure that you update your phone number if it is not registered in your name. However, if you notice your status reads ‘paid’ but haven’t received funds after five working days, then investigate through official channels.

What does ‘Already Active’ status mean?

Already Active status means that you have already submitted an application to SASSA and you cannot send a new request to the system. If you re-submit your application to SASSA by mistake and the system recognizes, this will prompt that status. It could also be because you have another active session open elsewhere.

Conclusion

A pending SASSA R370 application status can be frustrating, but it is often a normal part of the verification process. By understanding the checks involved and the possible reasons for delays, applicants can better manage their expectations and take proactive steps where possible. Always ensure your application details are accurate, monitor your status regularly, and stay patient as SASSA works through high volumes of applications.
